Washington DC: Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth is set to testify before Congress on Wednesday regarding the ongoing Middle East war. The hearing comes as diplomatic efforts have reached a standstill, with President Trump reportedly skeptical of a new Iranian proposal to unblock the vital Strait of Hormuz.

While Trump recently claimed Iran is ‘militarily defeated,’ Tehran has dismissed these statements, asserting they possess ‘many cards’ yet to be played.

The gridlock has caused global oil prices to surge, with Brent crude rising above $112 per barrel. Adding to the tension, the Lebanese army reported its first casualties since a recent ceasefire began, following an Israeli strike in the south.

Hegseth’s testimony is expected to address these rising costs and the administration's strategy for navigating the increasingly volatile conflict.
