Ankara: Turkey has reaffirmed its support for ongoing peace efforts between the United States and Iran, urging both sides to adopt a constructive approach to negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.

In a weekly briefing, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said Ankara would continue to play a supportive role in efforts to turn the current ceasefire into a permanent truce and ultimately secure lasting peace. “We will continue to provide the necessary support for the ongoing ceasefire to turn into a permanent truce and eventually lasting peace, without becoming more complex and difficult to manage,” the ministry said.

A NATO member and a neighbour of Iran, Turkey has remained in close contact with Washington, Tehran and mediator Pakistan, repeatedly calling for an end to hostilities.

Ankara also expressed hope that “the parties will be constructive in the ongoing negotiation process” as diplomatic efforts continue.

US and Iranian officials are reportedly considering returning to Pakistan for another round of talks as early as this weekend, after previous negotiations concluded without a breakthrough.

Meanwhile, regional diplomacy is set to intensify, with foreign ministers from Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt expected to meet on the sidelines of a forum in Antalya. Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to attend the gathering.
