Qatar and UK Discuss Regional Stability Following U.S.-Iran Ceasefire

His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, today received the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, His Excellency Mr Keir Starmer, during his current official visit to the country.

The leaders reviewed the latest regional developments following the historic ceasefire announcement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Beyond the geopolitical landscape, they discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on enhancing defence and economic partnerships.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Qatar’s welcome of the ceasefire. He emphasised the urgent need to build upon this momentum to prevent further escalation or the widening of tensions across the region.

The Shaikh also underscored the vital importance of safeguarding maritime passages and ensuring the freedom of international trade and navigation. He noted that adhering to international law in these waters is essential for maintaining regional stability and protecting global supply chains.

Expressing his appreciation for the United Kingdom’s continued support, the Shaikh praised the robust defence cooperation between the two nations over recent years. In response, the British Prime Minister reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s solidarity with the State of Qatar, stressing that the current ceasefire must be transformed into a permanent agreement to secure long-term peace and stability in the region.
