Judge allows Tiger Woods to leave US for treatment

FLORIDA: A Florida judge has granted golf legend Tiger Woods permission to travel outside the United States for intensive medical treatment, following his recent DUI arrest and a high-profile rollover crash.
The ruling, issued on Wednesday, allows Woods to pursue a specialised medical recovery program recommended by his medical team, which his attorneys argued is unavailable within the country and requires a level of privacy that has been ‘repeatedly compromised’ domestically.
Woods, who did not attend the hearing in person, entered a not-guilty plea earlier this week. His legal team emphasized that a ‘complex clinical presentation’ necessitates a controlled environment to ensure a meaningful recovery. While the court has granted this travel flexibility, the legal proceedings remain active.
Authorities have noted ‘severe signs of impairment’ at the time of the incident, including lethargy and the discovery of prescription medication, though a breathalyzer test returned a zero reading for alcohol. Woods has publicly stated he is stepping away from the game for a period to prioritise his well-being and ‘work toward lasting recovery.’
