Baku: Azerbaijan has begun withdrawing its diplomatic staff from Iran due to security concerns, according to Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

Speaking at a press conference, Bayramov said Azerbaijani personnel were being evacuated from the country’s embassy in Tehran and its consulate general in Tabriz in north-western Iran.

The decision follows an incident a day earlier in which Baku said four Iranian drones crossed into Azerbaijani territory and injured four people in the Nakhchivan exclave.

“We cannot put the lives of our people at risk,” Bayramov said, adding that the move was aimed at ensuring the safety of diplomatic personnel.
