Moscow, Russia: Russia announced Thursday it is expelling a group of Hungarian diplomats in a tit-for-tat response to Budapest.
The Russian foreign ministry summoned Hungary’s charge d’affaires, informing him that diplomatic staff from the embassy in Moscow and consulates in Saint Petersburg and Kazan must depart.
The affected officials were given two weeks to leave the country.
Budapest originally expelled 10 Russian diplomats last month to safeguard Hungarian security and sovereignty.
Relations have cooled under new Prime Minister Peter Magyar, who seeks closer ties with Ukraine, departing from predecessor Viktor Orban's pro-Kremlin stance.
