Moscow welcomed its first-ever direct flight from Saudi Arabia on Friday, marking a new chapter in travel between the two countries.
The Flynas aircraft took off from Riyadh at 8:42 a.m. Moscow time and touched down at Vnukovo Airport at 1:46 p.m., carrying 155 passengers. The service will now operate three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The airline also plans to add a Riyadh-to-St. Petersburg route soon.
Deputy Transport Minister Vladimir Poteshkin called the flight “a landmark event in the history of civil aviation between Russia and Saudi Arabia,” highlighting the joint efforts of government agencies and aviation authorities from both nations.
Passengers arriving on the inaugural flight expressed excitement, with some saying they had been waiting for this route to open for a long time. One traveler even hoped that visa requirements for Saudi citizens might be eased in the near future.
Looking ahead, Russian airline Azimut is expected to start its own flights to Saudi Arabia in October, pending final preparations and approvals.
