Uber Launches ‘Senior Accounts’ in MENA to Make Travel Easier for Older Adults
Uber has officially launched a new feature called Senior Accounts across the MENA region, including Bahrain, to make transportation easier and more accessible for older adults. The initiative aims to help seniors move around independently — whether for doctor’s visits, family outings, or grocery shopping — while giving their loved ones peace of mind.
The new feature is now available in Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, and Lebanon, and builds on Uber’s growing efforts to create a user-friendly platform for all age groups. Seniors don’t have to live in the same city or country as their family members to benefit from the feature.
Through Uber’s Family Profiles, a family member can invite an older adult to join as a senior rider. The simplified app experience offers larger text, fewer steps, and clearer buttons. Seniors can also save favorite locations, choose from flexible payment options, and let their loved ones track trips in real time. For those who prefer independence, the Simple Mode setting can be turned on to further reduce app complexity.
One of the key features is that family members can assist remotely—booking or managing trips on behalf of their older relatives, no matter where they are.
“Senior Accounts are designed to meet the unique needs of older adults,” Uber said in its announcement. “In a region where family connections are strong, this tool helps seniors stay mobile and connected while ensuring families can offer support from a distance.”
With summer heat, limited public transport routes, and infrequent schedules often making travel difficult for seniors in the region, Uber’s new solution provides a safer and more convenient alternative.
The new feature was developed with input from seniors and accessibility experts, and follows successful launches in countries like the US, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico.
By offering Senior Accounts and Simple Mode, Uber is continuing its mission to remove barriers to mobility and create inclusive solutions for people at every stage of life.
