Greece's former parliament speaker, Constantine Tassoulas, has officially been sworn in as the country’s new president on Thursday. Tassoulas, a lawyer and lawmaker with the center-right ruling party, was nominated for the largely ceremonial role by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
At 66 years old, Tassoulas succeeds Katerina Sakellaropoulou, whose five-year term ended earlier this month. The change in leadership marks a new chapter for Greece, with Tassoulas taking on the presidential duties following Sakellaropoulou’s tenure.
The swearing-in ceremony solidifies his position, and he will now step into his new role, overseeing a term that is largely symbolic but important in representing the country.
