Tehran-Based Artist Banafsheh Hemmati to Debut Solo Exhibition in UAE
Independent artist and designer Banafsheh Hemmati will unveil her first solo exhibition in the UAE on 9 October 2025, in collaboration with the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Titled “Body Geometry,” the exhibition will feature a unique collection of wearable jewellery and sculptures, highlighting the interplay between the two art forms.
The exhibition explores the intricate relationship between body, space, and geometry, positioning itself at the crossroads of art, design, and philosophy. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience how geometric forms interact with the human body, as well as gain insight into Hemmati’s creative process.
“Body Geometry” follows Hemmati’s participation in Dubai Design Week and two editions of the DIFC Sculpture Park, and will be open to the public from 9–31 October 2025 at Satellite Gallery, DIFC.
All works in the exhibition stem from the redefinition of three foundational forms of Islamic geometry, aiming to unlock their conceptual and formal potential and create a new visual language bridging Eastern and Western traditions. Unlike traditional Islamic philosophy, which typically moves from multiplicity toward unity, Hemmati’s work reverses this approach, moving from unity to multiplicity to create contemporary, multi-layered compositions.
Speaking about the exhibition, Banafsheh Hemmati said:
"My practice is shaped at the intersection of art, design, and philosophy. All the works in this collection are derived from foundational forms of Islamic geometry. Body Geometry is a research-based project where both the final pieces and the design process are on display. As a designer-artist, I explore these geometric patterns at scales ranging from jewellery to large sculptures."
With over two decades of experience, Hemmati is the founder of Banafsheh Hemmati Design Studio, and her work spans sculpture, artistic jewellery, interior design, lighting, and furniture. Drawing inspiration from Islamic architecture, she integrates and reinterprets geometric patterns in contemporary contexts, challenging traditional rigidity and expanding their visual and formal possibilities.
Hemmati holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Design and a PhD in Philosophy of Art, with research focusing on the philosophical foundations connecting art and engineering.
