Bahraini MMA star Hamza Kooheji will make his PFL MENA debut on May 24 in Dubai. He faces Morocco’s Taha Bendaoud in a featherweight bout at the ninth edition of the championship, billed as “Pride of Arabia.”
Kooheji, one of Bahrain’s most experienced fighters and a cornerstone of the KHK MMA team, enters the PFL MENA spotlight carrying years of regional and international experience. Long regarded as a pioneer of Bahraini MMA, he sees this debut as more than just another fight.
“Representing Bahrain in PFL MENA is a huge honor for me and for every Bahraini,” Kooheji said. “My goal is to showcase the level of Bahraini fighters and prove we can compete with and beat some of the best in the Arab world.”
He noted that his preparation for this camp took a different approach than usual, as he trained primarily in the Kingdom.
“This camp was completely different,” he said. “I focused more on recovery, rest, and taking care of my body. That balance is what creates a complete fighter.”
Training under the KHK MMA banner, Kooheji credited the team’s disciplined environment for shaping his career and keeping him sharp.
“KHK has proven itself on the global stage,” he said. “What makes it special is the mentality, discipline, and professionalism. Everyone pushes each other every day.”
Facing Bendaoud, Kooheji is aware of the challenge ahead, particularly on the ground, but remains confident in his overall game.
“I’m ready for any scenario inside the cage, whether the fight stays standing or goes to the ground,” he said. “I trust my style and the work I’ve put in during this camp.”
