Fereej Courts project signed to boost community sport

Bahrain’s efforts to expand community sports infrastructure received a boost when a new neighbourhood sports initiative was signed in the presence of a senior royal sports official.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, witnessed the signing of an agreement for the “Neighbourhood Courts” initiative between the General Sports Authority and Bin Higris Real Estate Development and Investment.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdulrahman Askar, Chief Executive of the General Sports Authority, and Eng. Aref Higris, Chairman of Bin Higris Real Estate Development and Investment.
Aref Higris, Chairman of Bin Higris Real Estate Development and Investment. hh Shaikh Khalid said the initiative reflects Bahrain’s leadership vision to strengthen sport as a community practice and continues earlier national efforts aimed at embedding sport in daily life, particularly among young people.
He said providing accessible sports courts within residential areas would help channel youth energy, strengthen social cohesion, and support the discovery of sporting talent for clubs and national teams.
He also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships, noting that cooperation with the private sector is essential to advancing sustainable development in the sports sector.
