Centre for Mixed Martial Arts at UoB
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Athletics Association has praised the University of Bahrain (UoB) in establishing a Khalid bin Hamad Sports Centre for Mixed Martial Arts.
The programme is set to start in the second half of the academic yearin February.
Shaikh Khalid announced this development following a series of meetings with Dr Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Janahi, the Bahrain University Chairman, Professor Mona Al Ansari, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Physical Therapy, Dr Fuad Al Ansari, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr Osama Al Jowder, Dean of Student Affairs and Dr Maha Al Rashed.
Shaikh Khalid discussed with Dr Al Janahi the US experience of Mixed Martial Arts at its universities and its inclusion on the academic syllabus in Bahrain.
He also acknowledged the University of Bahrain was a leading educational institution and praised its efforts to enhance education in the Kingdom.
Dr Al Janahi stated that the university was honoured to promote and develop mixed martial arts.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalid paid tribute to the student council, clubs and society at the university in its support of academic, educational and sporting activities and the inclusion of mixed martial arts as a new course.
