27 get 5 years’ jail in sand unloading case

The High Criminal Court has sentenced 27 defendants to five years in prison each for forcing a dump-truck driver to unload sand on the highway.

The Bahraini suspects were reportedly among the 150 thugs who were rioting near Bani Jamra.

They were said to have stood on the way of the victim and forced him to unload the sand that was on the truck.

He had initially refused, but one of the defendants stabbed him several times on his left thigh. Then, they allowed him to leave. The victim went to the security personnel who were stationed in a nearby checkpoint and informed them about the incident.

He was taken to a hospital, while the cops headed to the scene and clashed with the rioters.

The court files stated that the thugs had also attacked the security forces with iron rods and firebombs, causing injuries to a cop.

The incident occurred on October 26, two years ago, and the defendants were identified following police investigations.
