Three seeds knocked out

Three seeds were yesterday knocked out in the second round of the boys singles at the Seventh Bahrain ITF Junior Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair, with second seed Mohammed Abdel-Aziz of Egypt ranked 415 in the world the biggest casualty after losing in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to UAE’s Fahad Al Janahi.

Switzerland’s third seeded Carlos Kelaidis ranked 587 also fell by the wayside going down 7-5, 6-3 to Egypt’s Yousef Khamis, while fourth seeded Norwegian Christian Linge ranked 650 also lost in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 against Bulgarian Kaloyan Dimitrov.

Top seed and defending champion Ammar Al Hogbani of the US ranked 375 make it through the quarter finals with a easy 6-3, 6-0 win over Pakistan’s Mujahid Khan, while Bahrain’s sole survivor from the first round Ali Dawani put up a valiant effort before losing out in a third set tie-break by 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(3) to Egypt’s sixth seeded Adham Gaber.

In other second round matches, Fares Al Janahi of the UAE comfortable beat Saudi Arabia. Abdulaziz Al Bayouk 6-3, 6-0, seventh seeded Cypriot Eleftherios Neos (Cyp) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Egypt’s Adham Hesham Gabr and eight seed Patricio Nieto from Mexico got the better of Egyptian Seif Shawky 6-2, 7-6(7).

Meanwhile, in the girls singles second round, results were less dramatic with all seven seeds serving from the first round on Monday advancing to the quarter finals.

Leading the way was top seed Emelie Luisa Schwarte from Germany ranked 509 to brush aside India’s Aaliya Ebrahim 6-3, 6-0 and second seeded Ahlam Shawkat ranked 514 was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Turkey’s Zehra Lara Tekbas.

Briton Donia Abdel-Aziz seeded third and ranked 571 knocked out Bahrain-based Areej Fareh of Chinese Taipei 6-2, 6-1, and two other Britons advanced with fourth seeded Camille Verden Anderson ranked 662 winning 6-0, 6-0 against Ecuador’s Rafaella Saa and compatriot and fifth seed Lily Reynolds was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Turkey’s Ayca Erturk.

In other matches, sixth seed Nancy Fawzy of Egypt for the better of India’s Rai Sengupta 6-2, 6-1, Cypriot eighth seed Themis Haliou got the better of Egypt’s Sara El Ghazouly 6-1, 6-1 and the battle of the unseeded players saw Germany’s Lara Schmid beat Britain’s Tzarina Tuen Matthews 6-3, 6-3.
