The Southern Municipal Council concluded its four-year term after recording 291 decisions and recommendations, with members preparing to continue their work during a six-month extension period.
Council Chairman Abdullah Ibrahim Abdul Latif said the fourth session alone included 20 meetings, resulting in 55 decisions and recommendations covering various municipal and service-related issues.
He added that the council sent 756 official correspondences to ministries and service entities during the same period, bringing the total number of communications across its four terms to 3,815.
Abdul Latif said the figures reflect the council’s continued efforts to follow up on residents’ requests, address service challenges, and support development projects across the Southern Governorate.
Six-month extension
The chairman welcomed the Cabinet’s decision to extend the work of municipal councils for six months, saying the move would ensure continuity while ongoing projects and community needs remain active.
He confirmed that the council will maintain its current pace during the extension period, focusing on completing pending initiatives and continuing previous efforts.
However, he said the council awaits further clarification from the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture on whether the extension will be considered part of the fourth term or treated as a separate session.
Cooperation with authorities
Abdul Latif praised the cooperation of government entities and thanked Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, and Director General of the Southern Municipality Isa Al Buainain for their support.
He also expressed appreciation to service authorities involved in municipal work, as well as media organisations for covering council activities and highlighting local issues.
The chairman thanked council members for their efforts throughout the term, saying the achievements recorded represent one part of the council’s work, while the upcoming extension period will determine the impact of ongoing initiatives.
