Fifty undergraduate students worked to prepare research projects, which will contribute to solving environmental challenges facing the Kingdom and the region, as part of a training programme titled “Climate Champions Research” organised by the Higher Education Council and the British Council.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, the Secretary-General of the Council of Higher Education, in the presence of Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Council and Roddy Drummond, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom.

The training, from Saturday to Thursday, was held at Wyndham Grand Hotel in Bahrain Bay.

A Bahraini-British council will evaluate the research projects to determine the first three places.

Programme trainers Daniel Boyden and Daniel Smith from the United Kingdom praised the excellent organisation of the programme.

The training programme also won praise from the lecturers Maysoon Awad from the University of Bahrain, Nahid Yousef from the Bahrain Training Institute and Dr Sakhr Al-Najdawi from the University of Applied Sciences.

Student Rashid Al-Binzaid from the University of Applied Sciences said the programme was an excellent experience on the personal, scientific and cultural levels and provided an opportunity to acquire diverse skills and cultures.

Student Abdul Rahman AlSaei from the University of Applied Sciences said working within groups with different specialisations effectively contributed to exchanging ideas.

Yet another student, Maryam Al-Nashit from the American University in Bahrain, said the programme was full of creativity where all worked in harmony to confront environmental issues. Iman Al-Mannai from Al-Ahlia University expressed her gratitude for allowing Bahraini youth to devise solutions for climate protection.
