The Education Ministry’s efforts to provide high-quality education services for all since the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has received praise from the World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative and Head of Office in Bahrain, Dr Tasnim Atatrah.

The Ministry’s delivery of lessons in close cooperation with the Health Ministry is commendable, said Dr Atatrah, noting that it has created an integrated healthy school environment.

Dr Atatrah was speaking during her meeting with Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, who informed her about the health services provided by the Ministry to all students and the precautionary measures implemented to ensure their safety.

He also highlighted the online educational services provided by the Ministry since the outbreak of the pandemic, including centralised lessons, the educational portal lessons, televised lessons and others via 14 YouTube channels, including one for students with special needs. Dr Al Nuaimi also highlighted the precautionary measures to be implemented during the new school year, according to the developments of the health situation, and in coordination with the National Medical Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus, after the approval of the Government Executive Committee.

The Minister indicated that Bahrain’s distance education experience has been widely praised by many relevant regional and international organisations, such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in addition to the distinguished results in the study prepared by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics on the extent to which education around the world has been affected by the pandemic, which proved the limited impact of the pandemic on the educational system in Bahrain.

Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr Mariam Al Hajeri, and Education Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Services Kifaya Al Anzoor, in addition to a number of officials from the two ministries, attended the meeting.
