The National Space Science Agency (NSSA) CEO Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Al Asiri has participated in the Global Forum (Space and Big Change). The forum was designated by the United Nations to discuss international changes related to creating more sustainable societies after the pandemic with the use of modern technologies, especially those that depend on space and its various sciences to ensure providing key services such as security, health, food, education, communications and transportation, and others.

Dr Al Asiri emphasised that space technologies are turning to be the source behind services and products that have become indispensable in our daily life. He said that the earth observation with remote sensing and navigation and communications satellites has played a major role in addressing a wide range of challenges throughout the outbreak.

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) has launched a series of forums dedicated to discussing the lessons learned from the pandemic and harnessing them to rebuild the global economy according to more flexible and strong standards to ensure the sustainability of human societies. “The pandemic represents an opportunity to rethink our future, set priorities and act accordingly, which will help us move forward to achieve sustainability, equality and innovation,” Dr Al Asiri said.

“Such initiative aims to promote common goals and improve the global economy; since space is a fast-growing economic sector itself that supports the growth of other sectors.”
