Eid prayers to be performed at home

TDT | Manama

Eid prayers in Bahrain will be performed at home at 5.31am on Friday, the Sunni Endowments Directorate has said. Mosques will proclaim the traditional Eid takbeers (praise to Allah) from 5am until 5.31am. The takbeers traditionally precede the prayers and sermons, but there will be no prayers.

Bahrain had shut down mosques as part of preventive measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) through congregations. Meanwhile, the Sunni Endowments Directorate’s charity work section has distributed Eid Al Adha gifts and sacrifices worth over BD23,000, in coordination with charitable societies across the Kingdom.

Sunni Endowments director Youssif Noor said that the charity projects aim to glorify the rituals of the Islamic religion, following in the footsteps of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him), in order to bring joy to people during the auspicious occasion and to implement the conditions set by those who donated money for charity work.

He indicated that a budget of BD14,000 has been allocated for Eid gifts, from which 950 needy children have benefitted; and another, valued at BD 9,350, for 170 Eid sacrifices, from which about 700 families have benefited. He stressed the Sunni Endowments Directorate’s commitment to precautionary measures taken by the Kingdom to combat COVID-19 during the slaughtering of Eid sacrifices, and their delivery to the homes of beneficiaries.
