In a reply to the “violent and systematic” campaign against Jaffaria Waqf Directorate (JWD), claiming its negligence towards some of the mosques in the country, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry’s JWD said it would combat the parties attempting to offend its accomplishments.
After a local publication and few social media users accused the directorate of not paying enough attention to Shaikh Aziz historic mosque in Sehla, JWD said it recognises the importance of the mosque, which is regularly visited by hundreds from Bahrain and other regional countries. Denying the allegations stating that the directorate has demolished important parts of the mosque during the ongoing maintenance works, JWD affirmed that it is expanding the mosque without harming any part of the original building, adding that it would be soon reopened and would accommodate more worshippers.
“Once the maintenance works are completed, the mosque will accommodate 500 male and female visitors,” the directorate explained in a press statement.
“The mosque will have an additional storey to accommodate women, a new air-conditioning system, elevators, new Islamic decorations, new restrooms, new carpets and a new library for women,” the statement added.
JWD condemned the campaigns against its achievements, commenting, “Rumours and false news must be stopped at once, considering the deep impact it has on the public, especially the youth.”
Following a press statement issued by JWD on Monday, stating that it has renewed the second oldest mosque in Bahrain, hell broke loose as a local publication accused the directorate of neglecting Sheikh Aziz historic mosque, moreover damaging its original structure. The report made a huge buzz among social media users who widely condemned JWD.
