12 years of education compulsory
Manama
Education Ministry's Public Media Relations stressed that a student is required to finish 12 years of compulsory education.
This came in response to the parents’ demands to the Ministry about Dilmun School agreeing to have their children skip another repeated year when moving from a British Grade to an American Grade.
When a student who finishes the sixth grade in the British system remains a sixth grader once they transfer to an American system, they must be registered as a sixth grader and a not seventh as some parents demand it to be.
Public relation pointed out that the Ministry has noticed confusion among some parents in May 2015 and the ministry has met with them to explain the matter fully.
The Ministry also ensured that the school explains to the matter to the parents and forced the school to put it in writing and on the school's website.
The Ministry noted that the system they follow is based on the years the students spend studying and not on titles such as (Year / Grade) and that students are required to finish Grade 12 or Year 13 so they don't face a problem with the ratification of the secondary school certificate.
With regard to what has been circulated in some media outlets that the Ministry would close down Dilmun School, and that 400 students will be forced to repeat a full academic year after being transferred to other schools, the Ministry said it is untrue as the Department of Education has not issued a decision to close down any school or suspend classes.
However, it said a warning was sent to them to remove the irregularities and adjust their positions according to the law.
It is noted that the number of students in Dilmun school is 266, and not 400 as mentioned, 20 of those student have finished the sixth year. Also what is mentioned about students forced to re-examine the curriculum after their move to other schools is not true and that the student's interest lies in the completion of years of school years, and not in the shortened skip full academic year.
