Woman attacked by a mugger

A woman, attacked by a mugger in an alley in Gudabiyya during the wee hours of yesterday, was rescued by a good samaritan.

A Filipino woman was reportedly attacked while she was walking down an alley in Juffair. The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was reportedly walking back home with her friend when the burglar pushed her and tried to snatch her purse.

The woman relented, she held on the purse but had to let go as the burglar overpowered her. As the burglar tried to run away, the woman ran behind him and tried to stop him, at which point another man stepped in and snatched the purse from the thief and returned it to the woman. The incident took place at 1.17am on Wednesday.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera and the footage, which was uploaded to social media, went viral attracting more than 130,000 views in a day. The video starts with the woman walking with her friend as the man follows them, at the end of the video the man is seen running away from the scene after he failed to steal the purse.

Social media users applauded the Arab man who came to the Filipina's rescue and commended the woman's bravery in defending herself while other users highlighted the issue of muggers in Gudaibiyya "This is not the first time that this has happened here in Bahrain, there was one incident that took place on June 27 in Manama, another Filipina victim, it happened during daytime, but it just so happened that no CCTV was on that area." a user commented.
