Municipal Council holds awareness programme on Environment Day

Manama : The Capital Municipal Council held an awareness programme under the banner of ‘My Beautiful Capital’ at the Sitra Walk yesterday to promote the World Environment Day and spread awareness on the initiatives to protect the environment. 

The awareness program that was held in collaboration with International Sport for All Federation featured programs like the adult walkathon, children walkathon, tree planting and drawing competition for the kids. 

The Capital Municipal council also held a workshop to make the public aware of the initiatives they could take to save the environment. It also distributed recycled water bottles and flowerpots to the public. 

“We have initiated a campaign called ‘My Beautiful Capital’ to promote greenery and cleanliness in our city,” Dr Maha Al Shehad, Chairperson of Public Relation Committee at Capital Municipal Council said, “With initiatives like these, we are striving for an environmental friendly capital and providing the citizens a better quality of life.” 

“We are constantly working with NGOs and other governmental bodies in protecting the environment,” she told DT News. 

Mazen Ahmad Al-Omran, Vice Chairman of Capital Municipal Council, said, “ We held this awareness program to celebrate the world environment day and to make people aware the need to take care of the environment.”

He said that the capital consists of 38 parks and walkways, which is the largest number in the entire Kingdom and the Capital Municipal Council plans to initiate programs to protect these places.

“We have to enlighten the people to be part of the sustainable environment and urge them to help us make the kingdom greener,” he told DT News.
