Manama
A parliamentarian was attacked at his residence in Barbar for the third time this year, apparently due to of his political views and orientations.
Speaking to DT News yesterday, MP Jalal Kadhem Al Mahfoudh explained the attack took place during the early hours of Wednesday, when he and his wife were in the backyard of the house.
The attackers reportedly hurled stones from the rear side of his house, apparently aware of the surveillance cameras installed at the front. “Fortunately, we were not injured nor were there any huge damages,” he said.
Interestingly, the MP’s house was attacked few hours after he was involved in a political argument with a group of people on social media network.
Al Mahfoudh said those who attacked were against his nationalism.
“I was attacked by those who are still living in the shadows of the 2011 unrest, which we overtook years ago, as we are concerned about the future of our country,” the lawmaker commented.
Al Mahfoudh confirmed, “Some are upset by the unity we live in and are attempting to pull us back into chaos.”
“They thought my national and democratic approach by joining the Parliament Council would fail. They’re irritated because the people of Bahrain have opened their eyes to the truth now. I’m here to serve the people and the number of visitors to my office during the past six months proves that,” said the MP.
The MP called upon parents to monitor their children and protect them from becoming prey to such violence and hate inciters, as they will be eventually held accountable before the law.
He said it’s sad to see mislead youth being used as tools by enemies of the nation.
Al Mahfoudh criticised calls for violence, stating, “extremism has no religion or respect to religions.”
He thanked public security for their prompt response and efforts in ensuring the safety of the country.
“Bahrain is taking steady steps towards a bright future, following the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. It’s important at this point of time to focus on unity and reject sedition of any kind,” he added.
As reported earlier, Al Mahfoudh lost around BD24, 000 during the elections period seven months back, when unknown individuals set two of his vehicles on fire, while he and his family were sleeping inside the house.
During the same month, saboteurs burnt his farm in Bani Jamrah, costing him over BD1500.
He said such attacks make him more determined to defy extremism masterminded by few inciters in the Kingdom.
