CCTV to check crime in city

ManamaSecurity authorities in the Kingdom have recently installed surveillance cameras in public areas where high incidences of crime were reported.

Interior Ministry confirmed in a letter to the House of Representatives that “vital streets and areas, economically important areas and regions where crimes and riots were frequently reported have been provided with surveillance cameras”.

The ministry’s statements came in reply to a proposal submitted by a group of MPs earlier to bring the whole of Bahrain under CCTV surveillance.

The move follows resolution 51 issued by Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa in 2016, obliging certain establishments in the private sector to install surveillance cameras that operate around the clock and are connected to Interior Ministry.

The resolution includes installing CCTVs at private educational institutions, charity societies, public, commercial and industrial establishments, residential compounds and other real-estates that require special protection.

The resolution, which came into effect in December, also warned of installing surveillance cameras at bedrooms, physiotherapy rooms, restrooms, changing rooms and private places allocated for women.
