Water scarcity hits city, annoys residents

ManamaThe water crisis in the heart of the city of Manama is reported to be haunting the residents for the past two weeks. Although reported to the authorities, the residents said there has been no solution to the problem.

The residents are being affected mainly in the late hours of the day. “Most of the taps go dry after 9pm, and the water returns only in the morning,” the residents complained. This has been going one for the last couple of weeks, they said while talking to the DTNews.

A head of the family residing at block 302, who sought anonymity, said that the residents of the block have spoken to the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) call center and explained about the problems they have been facing. “Whenever we make a complaint there will be water in the tap for the night. Again it goes dry the next evening,” they said.

Nishad Cheloor, residing at block 305, said, “We did not have water for five days in our apartment. Although complaints bring us relief, it will not be lasting, taps go dry again and houses without water.”

The public relations officer of the EWA, in response to the complaints, said the issue did not come to his notice, and the right place to approach would be the call centre.

The call centre, however, said there was a problem with the tank. And, there wasn’t enough pressure in the pipeline for the last few days to carry water to Manama. “The fact was, however, notified to the officials,” they said.

Ahmed Qarata, MP for Manama district, when notified about the issue, admitted there had been problems in water distribution water but they were fixed, adding that residents who were still facing the problem could report to him for necessary action. The MP, however, has undertaken to personally look into the matter and rectify.
