Nabeel Kanoo resigns from BCCI

Manama : Nabeel Kanoo announced on Thursday (January 12, 2017), that he resigned from his membership at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), local Arabic newspapers reported.

Nabeel Kanoo who was serving his third term in the 18-member board, resigned amidst allegations of unjustified spending and internal rifts.

Among the other reasons for his resignation, were "the interference of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Fatwa and Legislations Committee in the chamber's internal affairs. This represented a precedent in the history in the Chamber."

Moreover, he indicated that in the past, internal affairs were resolved in friendly ways without any need to resort to third parties. Kanoo further noted the Chamber's weak role in addressing the continued fees and taxes imposed on traders for almost a year now, while Chamber members are busy with internal divisions instead of defending the commercial sector.
