Top in tolerance

ManamaTolerance and acceptance are an integral part of the Bahraini culture, said His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday, urging all people to adhere to these values.

HM King was speaking during an address to the Bahraini citizens and residents to mark the International Day for Tolerance.

King Hamad pointed out that Bahrain is built on the values of tolerance, openness and co-existence, which has made it “an oasis of peace for all religions, creeds and ethnicities.”

“We can see today how citizens and residents live and work together in harmony, regardless of their origins, and this reflects the prevalence of tolerance among Bahraini people and their determination to upkeep it,” said HM the King

King Hamad said the tolerance of Bahrain’s society is reflected in the co-existence of mosques, churches, and Hindu and Jewish temples, adding that “this is a unique sight that has remained over several centuries as a visible sign of tolerance and a source of great pride.”

HM the King pointed out that tolerance is not only a principle that generates pride, but also a value that is deeply anchored in Bahraini traditions and the true teachings of Islam. Tolerance is also an urgent necessity for economic and social progress for all people across the world, added King Hamad.

“Since we assumed the duty of ruling the country, we have shouldered the responsibility of preserving Bahrain’s cosmopolitan society and respecting plurality to the extent that such values have been enshrined in our constitution and national laws,” HM King said.

King Hamad also pointed out that celebrating tolerance is the Bahraini model of respecting, accepting and appreciating the rich diversity of our world’s cultures.

HM the King reiterated that any form of tampering with the principles of religion or sects is not accepted in the Kingdom, adding that those who do not accept tolerance does not possess any Bahraini values.
