Terrorist group: Witnesses to be heard on December 13
Manama : Prosecution witnesses will be heard on December 13 in the trial of 138 men accused of forming a terrorist group. The group, named “Kata’eb Thu Al Fiqar” (Thu Al Fiqar Brigades), is reported to have detonated 19 bombs across the Kingdom.
The defendants implicated in the case have been also accused of spying for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and to a terrorist organisation in Iraq as well as possessing explosives and weapons. They pleaded not guilty, but they were ordered to be remanded in police custody, pending the case.
According to the court documents, the suspects received instructions from officials in the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard to unify their
terrorist activities in Bahrain and merge under one umbrella, called ‘Thu Al Fiqar Brigades’.
The individuals in the group were initially functioning in separate groups. Following instructions from Tehran, they merged and started making plots targeting the Kingdom.
Prosecutors say that the defendants were trained in arms and explosives at Iran-based military camps owned by the Revolutionary Guard. The other camps in Iraq were also supervised by the same.
The defendants are said to have been trained on personal security, military surveillance and how to prepare warehouses to stash weapons inside them.
Eighty-six of the defendants are in police custody, while the others are still at large and are being tried in absentia.
