Clamp down on car stunts: More drivers arrested

ManamaAs part of the campaign against illegal car stunts, law enforcement authorities have arrested several drivers recently. In a statement yesterday, Interior Ministry said that the drivers were engaged in such offences after removing the number plates of their vehicles.

Quoting the "Acting Director of Operations and Control at the General Directorate of Traffic Lieutenant Colonel Adel Al Doseri", the statement said: “The drivers’ activities caused disturbance due to the blaring noise of the tyres and they were involved in a number of traffic accidents.”

“Colonel Adel Al Doseri said the offenders were arrested during investigation and they were referred to the Public Prosecution. He called upon parents to create awareness among children on the risks of wrong traffic practices and the importance to follow traffic rules,” it added.

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Director General of Traffic Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Ali Daraj confirmed the withdrawal of driving licenses of five drivers last Wednesday.

Ali Daraj said that the drivers had committed violations such as illegal drag racing, car stunts, jumping red signals and over speeding.

Five other reckless drivers were arrested this month in Muharraq and Hamad Town for the same violations.

“The Traffic Department will continue to inspect traffic violations to enhance traffic safety levels,” Colonel Adel Al Doseri informed yesterday.
