No narcotics in Panadol Night : NHRA

ManamaClose on the heels of a report appeared in a local daily, National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) has clarified that there are no narcotic or banned chemical substances in Panadol Night, which are included in the Narcotic and Chemical Substances Monitoring Law.

In a statement issued here yesterday, NHRA denied that a prescription is required to purchase the medicine in Bahrain, similarly to the regulations followed internationally and in the GCC countries. Panadol Night is one of the most used pain relievers in the Kingdom.

NHRA stressed that it’s following strict procedures to regulate the circulation of medicines in the Kingdom. “There are medications in the market that couldn’t be purchased without a prescription as they contain narcotic substances that would affect patients. But Panadol Night isn’t one of those drugs,” it elaborated.

“Panadol Night contains two active ingredients: Paracetamol, which is an analgesic (a pain reliever which relieves aches) and antipyretic (reduces body temperature in case of fever). They are commercially known as Panadol. The second one is Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, which is an antihistamine with additional sedative properties,” the authority added.

Beware of scam emails

NHRA warned of a fraud email address that is being used to communicate with pharmaceutical and medical establishments in the Kingdom.

It explained that NHRA’s emails are designated as “example@nhra.bh” while the phony email is “nhra@gov.bh”.

“If the emails are opened, they allow the sender to hack into the receiver’s email. The authority would like to advise all healthcare, medical and pharmaceutical centres to stay away from these emails. The authority isn’t connected to these senders by any means,” a statement added.
