Woman remanded for Insulting Bahrain King

ManamaThe High Criminal Court has extended the remand of a woman accused of social media slur on the Leadership by 15 days.

The defendant, who posted insulting comments on Twitter against His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, was detained after the competent authorities received a tip-off on her offences.

The woman had confessed her crime and expressed regret during her first hearing before the High Criminal Court.

“I was under huge pressure, and I admit to what I did. I am deeply regret doing it,” she said.

“I have children, aged under two years and there is nobody to take care of them. I appeal to the court to grant me bail,” she said before a remand judge.

However, the court ordered her detention to be renewed.
