Arab League, Shura Council condemn Karbabad attack

ManamaArab League Secretary-General Dr. Nabil Al Arabi condemned the cowardly and heinous terror attack that targeted a Bahraini police patrol with Molotov cocktails in Karbabad on Saturday, killing a policeman and injuring two others.

Al Arabi said the attacks on security forces while they are assuming their duty of securing streets and protecting the citizens is a terror act. He reiterated the Arab League’s support to all efforts taken to combat terrorist outfits.

The Arab League chief offered condolences to the relatives of the fallen policeman as well as the Bahraini leadership, government and people, besides wishing the wounded a speedy recovery.

The Shura Council also strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack, which it said was instigated by destructive extremist ideology alien to Bahrain’s peaceful community.

The Council added that the terrorist attack only strengthens Bahraini people’s solidarity to confront extremism and called for actions against the perpetrators.

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) called for vigilance against calls for violence and urged to hold on to peaceful and legal means in defending demands. It also urged to hold on to national unity, exercise self-control and foster values of peaceful co-existence. 

NIHR also called on competent authorities to enforce the law to curb violence and promote peaceful action in expressing opinion while safeguarding all legal rights of the defendants.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry strongly condemned the heinous act and expressed its confidence in the Ministry of Interior to catch the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The Chamber also renewed its unwavering loyalty and support to the Bahraini leadership.

British Ambassador to Bahrain Simon Martin strongly condemned the bombing in Karbabad on Saturday, which resulted in the death of a policeman and two other policemen sustaining serious injuries. He also condoled the family and friends of the victims and urged all political and community leaders to categorically speak out against such act violence.

The UAE Ambassador to Bahrain Abdul Ridha Abdulla Khouri said that “such terror acts will not affect the reform march spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, nor will they impede its progress.”

The Doyen of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Bahrain, Shaikh Azzam Mubarak Al Sabah, reaffirmed his country’s support to all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its security.
