ISB becomes member of UNESCO Associated Schools

ManamaThe Indian School Bahrain (ISB) has become part of the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet), commonly referred to as UNESCO Associated Schools, a global network of 10,000 educational institutions in 181 countries.

“The ISB takes pride in being a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools (UNESCO ASPnet), which aims to instil in students the notion of ‘Sustainable development and Environment’,” said ISB chairman Prince S Natarajan. “As part of the ISB Mega Fair, the Indian School Students’ Exhibition will highlight this UNESCO theme in a very meaningful way.”

ASPnet schools work in four key areas: intercultural learning, peace and human rights, education for sustainable development, and the United Nations priorities. ASPnet schools integrate these priorities throughout their curriculum, celebrate internationally recognised days (like World Water Day), participate in international exchanges, and join UNESCO-affiliated education programmes. Schools ranging from preschools and elementary schools to university education departments are eligible for ASPnet membership.

The purpose of the initiative was to give concrete expression to UNESCO’s overarching mission of promoting peace and international cooperation through education. Schools that join ASPnet are committed to promoting UNESCO’s ideals by undertaking projects that prepare young people to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex world. ASPnet teachers and students have the chance to work together to develop innovative educational approaches, methods and materials at the local, national and global levels.

ISB Principal VR Palaniswamy said a team of officials from Bahrain’s Education Ministry had visited the school and that the school exhibition on April 29 and 30 will be a part of the UNESCO project on environment and sustainability.
