Guests evacuated in Manama hotel fire

Manama : Around 300 guests were evacuated from a five-star hotel yesterday, after a fire broke out in one of the rooms located on the 28th floor. No injuries were reported at The Domain Bahrain Hotel.

The Interior Ministry stated that seven Civil Defence vehicles extinguished the fire in the 36-storey hotel, while 299 people were evacuated, including 24 children.

Deputy General Director of Civil Defence said, “Civil Defence teams reached the scene within remarkable time and prevented the spreading of the fire to nearby rooms. Initial details attribute the reason to an electric short circuit.”

Meanwhile, the hotel management confirmed that the fire occurred at 12:30pm, causing thick smoke. “The Security Manager reported the fire on the spot, evacuated the suite, and started extinguishing the fire,” said the management, adding that the hotel started the evacuation at the same time.

“All rooms were manually checked to confirm that no one was left in the rooms. The hotel was fully evacuated and guests and staff were gathered at the assembly point next to the hotel, where they were given water while waiting to return to their rooms,” the statement explained.

All guests returned to their rooms after almost three hours, while the 28th floor will remain closed pending investigation, stated the hotel management.
