Bahrain chairs 31st GCC electricity and water cooperation meeting
Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, chaired the 31st meeting of the GCC Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee, held in Bahrain in the presence of Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC.
Minister Humaidan affirmed Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthening GCC cooperation in the electricity and water sectors.
He highlighted the importance of regional coordination in ensuring secure and sustainable supplies while supporting the development needs of GCC countries.
Minister Humaidan noted that progress in electricity and water cooperation reflects the high level of integration among GCC member states, stressing the need to further develop regulatory, technical and economic frameworks to enhance system efficiency and readiness for future challenges.
The meeting reviewed follow-up on decisions of the GCC Supreme Council concerning electricity and water, as well as efforts to strengthen electricity interconnection among member states.
The ministers also discussed establishing a clearer and more effective GCC framework for energy exchanges during exceptional circumstances to enhance preparedness, coordination and joint response.
On water cooperation, the meeting reviewed developments in potential water interconnection projects between GCC countries, along with progress on bilateral projects.
The meeting also followed up on the work of committees concerned with water resources, supporting efforts to strengthen water security, improve resource management and ensure sustainable supplies across the GCC.
