GCC Governors Step Up Banking Cooperation
As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th Session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), His Excellency Khalid Humaidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, chaired the 87th meeting of the Committee of Central Bank Governors of the GCC on September 14, 2026.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC, along with the governors of the central banks of the GCC member states.
In his opening remarks, Humaidan praised the continued commitment of GCC countries to strengthening cooperation and coordination among their central banks to support financial and monetary stability.
He also highlighted the ongoing development of the financial and banking sector across the GCC, stressing its important role in supporting economic growth and advancing sustainable development.
The committee discussed several issues related to strengthening cooperation among GCC member states, including recommendations from committees and working groups on the implementation plan for GCC payment systems, supervision and oversight of the banking sector, and financial technologies across the region.
The meeting also addressed the exchange of cybersecurity information within the banking sector and efforts by GCC member states to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
