Hormuz Must Guarantee Unrestricted Transit

The Cabinet stressed that any arrangement concerning navigation through the Strait of Hormuz must guarantee free and non-discriminatory transit, as the Deputy Prime Minister chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.

His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, chaired the meeting, during which the Cabinet reaffirmed Bahrain’s position on the principles that should govern any future arrangement concerning navigation through the strategic waterway.

The Cabinet stated that any such arrangement must be based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and adopted by the International Maritime Organization.

It stressed that the right of transit passage must be preserved for all vessels without discrimination, fees or permit requirements. The Cabinet also called for the involvement of all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, given the direct connection between the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the security of their supplies.

The Cabinet further affirmed that lasting peace depends on ending attacks, ensuring international accountability and providing redress for resulting damages, respecting state sovereignty, ending support for armed groups and resolving outstanding issues through legal means.

During the meeting, the Cabinet congratulated the winners of the 2026 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education.

It noted that the support and patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa have strengthened the prize’s international standing and recognition.

The Cabinet also highlighted Bahrain’s achievements in strengthening constitutional institutions and advancing their role in the Kingdom’s comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
