Supreme Council of Health and Solidarity Bahrain agreement marks step towards National Health Insurance Programme

The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has signed an agreement with Solidarity Bahrain to implement the Health Insurance for Residents programme, marking a key step in the phased rollout of Bahrain’s National Health Insurance Programme.

Lt. General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the SCH, said the agreement represents an important step towards enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of the Kingdom’s healthcare system and improving the quality of services provided to beneficiaries.

He explained that the Health Insurance for Residents programme will provide comprehensive health insurance coverage through an integrated regulatory and governance framework. The programme aims to improve the quality and sustainability of healthcare services, optimise the use of financial resources and strengthen public-private sector cooperation ahead of the full implementation of the National Health Insurance Programme.

The Chairman said mandatory health insurance coverage for residents will include primary and secondary healthcare services, as well as emergency care, through standardised insurance packages provided by a consortium of accredited health insurance companies.

Implementation will take place in coordination with relevant government entities and public and private healthcare providers through an integrated digital platform.

The platform will facilitate registration for mandatory health insurance packages, enable beneficiaries to access covered healthcare services and link health insurance coverage with work permit and residency procedures.
