The Lower Criminal Court has sentenced two Asian defendants to three months in prison for manipulating expiry dates on cleaning products offered for sale.

The court ordered their immediate imprisonment and final deportation from Bahrain after serving their sentences. It also ordered the confiscation of the fraudulent products and the tool used in the offence.

The case began after Budaiya Police Station received a report from a major retail store that one of its employees and an employee of a supplier had removed expiry dates from cleaning product packages.

Security footage documented the incident, while an inspection found several packages with their expiry dates removed, along with other expired products. The tool used in the offence was also seized.

Both defendants admitted the charges during Public Prosecution questioning. The store employee said he removed the expiry dates because he feared a deduction from his salary over expired products he was responsible for checking.
