Appeal Court Upholds 15-Year Jail Term in Marijuana Smuggling Case
Asian man fined BD10,000 and to be deported after serving sentence

The First High Criminal Court of Appeal upheld a 15-year prison sentence against an Asian man in his thirties convicted of smuggling and trafficking marijuana in Bahrain.
The court also reaffirmed a BD10,000 fine, ordered the confiscation of the seized drugs and related items, and ruled that the man be permanently deported after completing his sentence.
The case began on January 20, 2026, when customs officers at Bahrain International Airport intercepted a suspicious travel bag arriving from an Asian country via another Gulf state. A search revealed 10 packages of marijuana weighing a total of 5,489.6 grams.
According to court records, a 20-year-old woman admitted she had transported the bag from an Asian country to Bahrain in exchange for payment and was instructed to hand it over to another individual. Her cooperation with investigators led authorities to the second defendant.
Police arrested the man after he arrived at a pre-arranged location to collect the shipment. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered an electronic weighing scale, drug-packaging materials, and quantities of methamphetamine.
Investigators said the pair were part of a drug trafficking network involved in smuggling and distributing narcotics in Bahrain. The woman's role was to transport the drugs into the Kingdom, while the man was responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing them.
