Malaysia to Host Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026

Sepang to stage Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from October 2-4 under landmark Bahrain-Malaysia partnership

Formula 1 and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) have confirmed that Malaysia will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the iconic Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4, 2026, under a unique agreement between Bahrain and Malaysia.

The race, subject to final agreements and approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, will take place between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar. The remainder of the championship schedule will remain unchanged.

The agreement was reached between Formula 1, the FIA, and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia to ensure the Bahrain Grand Prix remains on the 2026 calendar despite regional challenges.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, said the initiative was made possible with the blessings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim of Malaysia, reflecting the close ties between the two countries.

"This will be a wonderful experience for fans around the world and reflects Bahrain's enduring commitment to, and passion for, the sport," HRH Prince Salman said, adding that Bahrain would continue to support the success of Formula 1 despite ongoing regional challenges.

Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a symbol of the enduring friendship and mutual trust between the two nations. He said Malaysia was ready to welcome Formula 1, the FIA, teams and fans back to Sepang and showcase the country's world-class facilities and hospitality.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the cooperation between all parties, saying the return of Formula 1 to Sepang highlights the strength of international collaboration and Malaysia's important place in the sport's history.

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the decision demonstrates the sport's ability to adapt and deliver solutions while ensuring fans continue to enjoy a full championship calendar.

Sepang International Circuit last hosted a Formula 1 race in 2017 and is widely regarded as one of the championship's most challenging and popular venues. Ticket details for the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia will be announced at a later date.
