Youth City 2030 Concludes “8 O’Clock News Challenge” and Crowns Winning Teams

The “8 O’Clock News Challenge”, organised by Bahrain Television’s News Centre as part of the activities of Youth City 2030, has concluded with the winning teams being honoured for their outstanding media productions.

Held under the Youth City 2030 initiative organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs in partnership with strategic partner Labour Fund “Tamkeen”, the challenge provided participants with a professional media experience, allowing them to apply journalism skills in a real newsroom environment while enhancing teamwork and their ability to produce news content under tight deadlines.

The winning team “Haqiqa” (Truth) secured first place. Team member Ali Al Oraibi said the challenge offered an opportunity to combine practical experience with academic knowledge. The team included Mohammed Khalil as producer and cameraman, Ali Sadiq Rabie as editor, and Al Oraibi as reporter.

He praised the Ministry of Information for providing participants with the opportunity to work according to professional media standards and engage with industry experts. The team chose to produce a report on the cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Youth Affairs in the largest edition of Youth City 2030, highlighting the event’s diverse programmes and activities.

The second-place team, “Adasa” (Lens), represented by Maryam Mohammed, said the challenge was their first participation in the competition. She explained that the team faced the challenge of completing all stages of production within just three days, adding that the experience strengthened teamwork skills and taught them how to complete tasks efficiently within limited timeframes.

Meanwhile, Ali Al Mulla from the third-place team “Al Hadath” (The Event) described the programme as a genuine test of time management and media production skills. He said the opportunity to work inside Bahrain Television’s News Centre provided valuable hands-on experience, particularly for media students, by allowing direct interaction with a professional newsroom environment.

Al Mulla expressed hope that the programme would continue to develop and expand in future editions, offering more young talents opportunities to enhance their media skills.
