Bahrain’s heat index reached 51 degrees Celsius on Friday afternoon, with high humidity making conditions feel around 14 degrees hotter than the actual recorded temperature.
Data from the electronic application of the Meteorological Directorate at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications showed that the actual temperature peaked at around 37°C, while the perceived temperature climbed to 51°C due to elevated humidity levels.
Humidity intensifies summer heat
Northern winds expected to bring relief from Monday
Weather experts explained that high humidity reduces the body’s ability to cool itself through sweat evaporation, causing people to feel significantly higher temperatures than the official readings.
Observations from Bahrain International Airport showed the highest recorded temperature on Friday reached 37°C at around 3:30pm, while the dew point stood at 28°C, equivalent to relative humidity of nearly 60 percent.
Based on the heat index calculation, the perceived temperature approached 52°C, highlighting the strong impact of humidity on the country’s summer conditions.
Heat to remain high in coming days
Maximum temperatures forecast at 44°C until Tuesday
According to the five-day weather forecast, maximum temperatures are expected to remain around 44°C until Tuesday, while minimum temperatures will range between 29°C and 31°C.
The Meteorological Directorate expects a noticeable drop in humidity from Monday, coinciding with increased northwesterly winds, which are likely to improve weather conditions and reduce the feeling of extreme heat.
