Attacker and One Victim Dead in Times Square Stabbing

NEW YORK: A woman armed with knives stabbed two people in Times Square on Monday afternoon before being fatally shot by police officers, leaving the attacker and one victim dead.

The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, carried out the sudden attack on Seventh Avenue, stabbing a 32-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man in a matter of seconds. 

Emergency crews rushed all three individuals to Bellevue Hospital, where Cisneros and the female victim were pronounced dead, while the male victim survived in stable condition.

Responding police officers confronted the suspect as she moved along the crowded thoroughfare carrying two knives. According to authorities, officers gave numerous commands for her to drop the weapons before attempting to deploy Tasers and ultimately opening fire when she advanced toward them.

Police officials stated that Cisneros had a documented mental health history with the police department, adding that there is no indication the attack was related to terrorism.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani praised the officers for preventing further harm, expressed condolences to the affected families, and confirmed that an internal investigation will review body-camera footage.
