Bahrain Hosts GCC Customs Union Meeting
Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa received the heads of delegations taking part in the 18th meeting of the GCC Customs Union Authority’s Executive Council in Bahrain.
The minister praised GCC member states for their efforts to advance the requirements of the Customs Union, stressing the importance of strengthening joint customs cooperation.
He also highlighted the temporary exceptional mechanism introduced after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, saying it helped accelerate the movement of goods and maintain the flow of essential supplies, particularly food and medical products.
The mechanism was supported by rapid information sharing, coordinated procedures and unified customs efforts, demonstrating the GCC’s ability to respond to emergencies while protecting the continuity of trade and supply chains.
General Shaikh Rashid said the next phase requires faster progress and stronger joint action to complete the establishment of the Customs Union and achieve its objectives.
He also emphasised the role of customs systems in improving the efficiency of entry points, securing supply chains and protecting the security, safety and economic interests of GCC countries.
The minister commended the GCC Customs Union Authority for its efforts and wished the meeting success in advancing Gulf customs cooperation.
