Bahrain's Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management, Lt. General Tariq bin Hassan Al-Hassan, participated in the 5th United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNPOC), held at UN Headquarters in New York on July 7–8.

Global Leaders Gather on Policing's Future
The summit brought together ministers, police chiefs, senior UN officials, and law enforcement leaders from across the world to discuss the future of policing, the role of innovation and emerging technologies in security systems, and strengthening international cooperation to meet evolving global security challenges.

AI and Digital Policing Take Centre Stage
Sessions focused on the responsible use of modern technologies — including artificial intelligence, digital policing tools, and intelligence-led approaches — to enhance operational efficiency while upholding accountability, the rule of law, and human rights.

Tackling Cross-Border Threats
Delegates discussed coordinating responses to transnational challenges including organised crime, illicit trafficking, and illegal arms flows, stressing the importance of partnerships between national law enforcement agencies, the UN, and international organisations for capacity-building and joint security efforts.

The summit concluded with a call to accelerate international cooperation mechanisms and encourage innovation to strengthen police readiness worldwide.
