Ras Rayya Awaits Fuel Station

Municipal council to push for long-delayed petrol station to support fishermen and harbour users.

Ras Rayya harbour in Samaheej has gone years without the fuel station planned to serve fishermen, sailors and recreational users, forcing users to bring fuel from stations elsewhere.

Muharraq Municipal Council is set to discuss the issue on Monday during its fifth Ordinary Meeting of the Sixth Municipal Session, following a recommendation from its Services and Public Utilities Committee.

The committee backed a request by sixth constituency member Fadhel Al Oud to speed up the opening of the petrol station at Ras Rayya port in Block 234. It said the facility would ease the burden on harbour users and reduce the risks linked to storing and transporting fuel by traditional methods.

The committee said the station would support a safer and more sustainable working environment for a fishing sector supporting around 1,200 Bahraini sailors and supplying about 60 per cent of Bahrain’s fresh fish. Ras Rayya is among four sites identified for new marine fuel stations, alongside Bandar Al Dar, Al Zallaq and Budaiya port.
