Shops Face Parking Rules
Muharraq council proposal seeks designated collection areas and stronger measures against traffic obstruction.

Muharraq Municipal Council Deputy Chairman Saleh Buhaza has proposed measures to reduce illegal and double parking outside busy shops, where waiting vehicles can obstruct traffic and block access to nearby properties.
The proposal calls for coordination between the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Traffic, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and other relevant authorities.
Under the proposal, designated quick-order collection spaces could be marked outside shops where road conditions allow. Businesses would also be required to adopt arrangements that prevent customers from blocking traffic while waiting for orders.
The proposal also calls for action against businesses that repeatedly cause traffic obstruction and for restrictions on placing cones, chairs or other objects to reserve public parking spaces without a licence. Traffic laws would continue to apply to drivers who park illegally or in a second row.
